In Search of Lost Time
Learning to take our time. A meditative reading project, 10-15 minutes per day to slowly work through this seven volume masterpiece.
Welcome, this is In Search of Lost Time - A Slow Read of Proust.
Imagine a book that doesn’t rush to entertain you but instead invites you to sink into its depths, like settling into a comfortable chair in a quiet, sunlit room. Marcel Proust’s ‘In Search of Lost Time’ is exactly that—a world where not much “happens” in the usual sense, but where everything that truly matters unfolds. It’s a slow unravelling of memories, thoughts, and sensations, reminding us how much richness exists in the ordinary. In a world obsessed with speed and resolution, reading Proust teaches us to savour boredom, find beauty in stillness, and appreciate the winding, tangled pathways of our own minds. The plot isn’t the point—it’s the journey, and it’s worth every lingering, luxurious moment.
Over the next few years, we’ll embark on a delightful, unhurried journey together, reading just 3-4 pages a day as we immerse ourselves in Proust’s seven-volume masterpiece. Along the way, I’ll share reflections, snippets from the text, and links to podcasts and others’ musings on how Proust has shaped their lives. I’d love to host a monthly online salon where we can gather to share our experiences—though I’ll wait for a few more subscribers before launching that idea.
I don’t yet know exactly how this will evolve or how often I’ll post, but I’m thrilled you’re here. For now, let’s embrace this mindful, meditative slow read. Each day, take ten to fifteen minutes to settle in with a cup of tea, cocoa, or perhaps a glass of something more spirited—whatever suits your mood. To add a touch of whimsy, I’ve found a classical playlist inspired by Proust to accompany our reading.
Let’s savour every moment.
